Frequently Asked Questions
"Where can I buy Lode Runner?"
-Lode Runner can be purchased direct from Sierra Online. Got to www.sierra.com/store and type in Lode Runner in the Express Lane. You may also be able to find copies at the CD-ROM shop or other places on the web. We live in Canada, and really don't know what stores might carry it in the US. (We've found it at Wal-Mart and K-Mart up here.) We do not support Software Piracy, so please don't ask us to make copies...
"How do I get past..."
-There are solutions to some of the tougher puzzles in the Help section of this site. If you don't see the solution you need, send us an E-Mail and we will post a solution for you.
"I only have 150 levels, where can I get the others?"
-Lode Runner: The Legend Returns only contains 150 puzzles. Lode Runner: The Mad Monks Revenge contains 187 levels, plus 5 secret levels. There is no way to upgrade from one to the other, but LR:TMMR is available at Sierra (See Above).

About Lode Runner
Lode Runner is one of the longest running (no pun intended), and most popular, video games of all time. The object of the game is for you, Jake Peril, to win back treasures stolen by the Evil Empire. The treasures are guarded by Mad Monks with bad attitudes. Originally titled "Kong" (because of similarities to Donkey Kong) Lode Runner was developed by Doug Smith in 1983. He wrote the code in Fortran at the University of Washington in Seattle and it ran on ASCII terminals. The bricks were solid block characters, the player was a dollar sign, and the bad guys were paragraph symbols, basically a backwards capitol P with a double vertical line. Everyone thought they looked like cobras, and referred to them as snakes. The next version was called Miner. It was written by Doug on an Apple II+. He originally wanted to keep the bad guys as snakes, slithering around the screen, but we're glad we ended up with Monks... Doug submitted Miner to four video game marketing companies, including Brøderbund, and was given an advance to complete the game. Brøderbund asked for 150 levels, and a new title page for a new name: Lode Runner. Various iterations of Lode Runner have surfaced over the years, Championship Lode Runner, Lode Runner: The Legend Returns and The Mad Monks' Revenge. The latest version, Lode Runner 2, is being developed by Presage and is a 3D version of the game, it looks awesome, and should be ready for Summer '98.

About Our Web Page
John and I live in White Rock, British Columbia. John is a Comp-Sci major at SFU, and I take care of Emily and play the Harp. We began this page in May of 1997. We purchased a copy of Lode Runner Online: The Mad Monk's Revenge, after seeing it at a friends house. John says he spent a kijillion hours playing the original version on his Apple //c, and insisted on (whined about) getting it. It has since become one of our favorite pass-times. We have finished the two player levels together, sometimes playing until either we got so worked-up and irritable we started killing each other and had to stop, or our brains began to fry...We think the reason we love the game so much is the combination of action and strategy. It is truly addicting. We hope you enjoy our site as much as we have enjoyed putting it together. If you want to know more about us, click on our picture.
